October is coming to an end and it struck me a few days ago. I didn’t go apple picking this year. How did this happen? Fall has for sure been busy, and it somehow totally fell through the cracks. Apple picking is one of my favourite traditions. Every time I go, I’m like a kid in a candy store, wandering for hours in the orchards and eating apple after apple until my belly begs me to stop. There’s something magical about biting into a crisp apple that’s just been picked straight from the tree a second before. It makes you appreciate each bite so much more.
But when you don’t have the luxury of picking your own apples – or when you just happen to completely miss the opportunity like I did – it’s great to know you can rely on some really good apples from the market or grocery store. There’s nothing more disappointing than eating soft or boring apples, especially when they’re in season. I was thrilled to find this irresistible crunch in the SweeTango apple variety. Their premium apples combine the best qualities of the sweet Honeycrisp and the tangy Zestar! apples. They’re crunchy and juicy, with perfectly balanced notes of citrus and honey.
When SweeTango asked me to create a recipe using their apples for Halloween, it was obvious that I had to go the caramel-dipped route. But traditional caramel apples usually come with loads of refined sugar, heavy cream or highly processed corn syrup. This recipe is a healthier take on this beloved Fall treat, using ingredients like natural sugar, pure maple syrup and coconut cream. Head over to their site to get the recipe.
This post was sponsored by SweeTango. All opinions are my own. SweeTango apples are now available in grocery stores across the U.S. and Canada (they have orchards in both countries) until the season ends, typically mid-winter. Thank you for supporting the brands that make The Green Life possible!
